Q. HOW CAN OXONNET HELP ME TO FIND A JOB IN THE UK?
A. We help you to prepare your CV, video and other documents. We offer you a complete guide on “LIVING AND WORKING IN THE UK”. We give you advice on how to perform telephone interviews and how to conduct yourself within a working environment in the UK. Your CV will be advertised and an offer of employment will be garanteed before leaving your country. We are also able to help with any questions you may have once you have received an Offer.
Q.DO I HAVE A JOB BEFORE I LEAVE MY COUNTRY?
A. Yes! A hotel will send you the invitation to work in their hotel with details before you leave your country.
Q. WHAT DO I NEED TO BE LEGIBLE TO ENTER IN OXONNET´S SCHEME?
A. If you are a european citizen, between 18 and 35 years old, have a B1 (intermediate level of English), have some experience working in a restaurant, bar etc, and can stay 6 months or more then you can apply at anytime.
Q. HOW WILL MY CV AND VIDEO BE ADVERTISED?
A. It will be sent to a database of potential employers, who are trusted and are used regularly by OXONNET, via the Internet.
Q. HOW LONG WILL I HAVE TO WAIT FOR AN OFFER?
A. We always try to send you a Work Placement very quickly, between 2 weeks and 2 months. In low season it may take longer.
Q. WHO WILL SEND MY WORK PLACEMENT LETTER?
A. The Work Placement/welcome letter will come direct from the hotel, establishment or potential employer.
Q. WHAT IF I DONT GET A WORK PLACEMENT IN THE TIME STATED?
A. You will have the opportunity to extend your dates, or to be given a refund minus a small admin fee.
Q. CAN I CHOOSE WHERE I GO?
A. Due to the market and the high competition it is not posible to give you guaranties on location or type of establishment but you are welcome to provide preferences and we always try to make a good match.
Q. WILL I BE WORKING IN A HOTEL?
A. You could be offered employment from any establishment within Hospitality, including holiday parks, bed and breakfast etc etc...
Q. WILL I BE WORKING IN A CITY?
A. Most hotels within Cities do not offer live in accommodation. Because we ask hotels to provide accommodation at all times for you, most locations are in small villages or rural areas.
Q. IF THE WORK PLACEMENT DOES NOT MEET MY EXPECTATIONS, CAN I REJECT IT?
A. Only if the welcome letter does not follow the characteritics given to you in our guide. From the very start you will be given detailed information regarding your job, location and what to expect from this experience. All Work Placements follow the same criteria.
Q. WHAT IF I AM ILL AND NOT ABLE TO ACCEPT THE WORK PLACEMENT?
A. We are able to look at individual circumstances and in some cases, always at the discretion of Oxonnet, we shall honour another Work Placement.
Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET A JOB IN SPAIN OR SIMILAR AND I AM NOT ABLE TO WORK IN THE UK?
A. If your circumstances change and you are no longer available to work in the UK, please inform OXONNET as soon as possible and your file will be put on hold. This must be done before a Work Placement arrives.
Q. WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND?
A. OXONNET will honour a ‘cooling off period’. If you change your mind in the first 14 days after making the payment you need to contact OXONNET in writing and you shall receive a refund (minus a small Admin fee).
Q. HOW QUICKLY DO I NEED TO START WORKING AFTER I RECEIVE MY OFFER LETTER?
A. We shall always try to give you at least 5 – 7 days notice of when you need to arrive in the UK, however, this is not always possible and a Hotel may require you to start working as soon as posible, so please make sure you have everything ready by the date you gave.
Q. WHEN CAN I BOOK MY FLIGHT?
A. You can book your flight as soon as you have received and accepted your offer of employment. Please send OXONNET an email to confirm this. Important: Do not book a flight before you receive your offer.
Q. DO I NEED A UK BANK ACCOUNT?
A. Yes, you will need to open one once you are in the UK. We explain it in full details in our complete guide to living and working in the UK. Other information such as your NI (National Insurance number) etc will also be explained in our complete guide also.
Q. DO I NEED A PASSPORT?
A. Yes! A Passport is a must requirement to open a bank account in the UK.
Q. WILL I GET A CONTRACT?
A. Yes, all employers should present you with a Contract. Some employers require you to Work a probationary period before a full contract is issued. However, you shall be protected by British Employment Law from day one.
Q. WHAT IF I HAVE ANY ISSUES AT THE HOTEL?
A. We recommend that you speak to the Hotel about any problems you have. If you decide to leave because it has not met your expectations we ask that you give them at least a few days notice. For the first 3 months you may be on a probationary period, which means no contract is necessary and you may be asked to leave or you can leave at short notice if you are not suitable for any reason. After 3 months, you shall have a contract and you and the hotel would need to give 1 weeks’ notice.
Q. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE HOTEL ASKS ME TO LEAVE THROUGH NO FAULT OF MINE?
A. If you are asked to leave within the first 6 months, because there is no longer Work for you because of lack of business or for any other reason that is not your fault, then OXONNET shall consider finding you a replacement Hotel. All cases will be considered on an individual basis (A small fee may apply).
Q. WILL I HAVE INTERNET ACCESS IN MY ROOM?
A. We cannot guarantee that WiFi will be available in your staff accommodation but we do know that a high percentage of hotels do have wifi.
Q. WHAT WILL MY ACCOMMODATION BE LIKE?
A. Most live in accommodation is very basic and you may have to share a room with a colleague of the same gender; OXONNET does not inspect Hotels’ accommodation, However we would like to know about anything that is not satisfactory so that we can make a note for future use.
Q. THERE IS NO ENGLISH SCHOOL CLOSE TO THE HOTEL, WHAT CAN I DO?
A. We encourage you to speak English at all times which will help you to improve. Any English clases must be arranged and taken in your spare time and days off. We do know organizations who can put you in contact with teachers on-line etc.
Q. WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE WITH ME?
A. You shall be informed on your Welcome Letter of any uniform requirements as well as anything else you might need.
Q. WHAT WILL I GET PAID AND DO I HAVE TO PAY TAXES?
A. You will be paid at least the National Minimum Wage and you shall be required to pay tax.
Q. WHAT HOURS WILL I BE WORKING EACH WEEK?
A. Hours will vary depending on the time of the year and how busy a hotel is. But all hotels guarantee a minimum of 22 hours a week and do not exceed 50 hours a week. However the usual hours given would be 30 to 40 per week, usually over 5 days with 2 days off.
